Liberating Structures

Liberating Structures are a revolutionary set of 33 microstructures rooted in complexity science and systems thinking. They were developed by Keith McCandless and Henri Lipmanowicz, who recognized that traditional meeting formats no longer fit our complex, rapidly changing world.

Liberating Structures are based on a fascinating insight: in complex systems (as, for example, in organizations), the best solutions arise not from one place (often pushed from above), but from the interactions between different parts (people in this case). It is precisely those unexpected connections and conversations that lead to breakthroughs.

How do you use these cards?

Use the cards when designing strings and quickly find the right structure for your purpose. Each card provides a visual overview of the structure at a glance. On the back of each card you will find three fixed elements:

1. Invitation
The central question that prompts ideas, insights or proposals
2. Materials
How to set up the space and what materials will you need
3. Roadmap
The sequence of actions and corresponding time indication
